Description
:
as part of my smoke simulation teaser I needed a flythrough of New York city.
Rather than create an entire city from scratch, I decided to start with a photo and camera map each building so that when the camera moves, it gives the illusion of real video footage.
The finished project will have smoke rising out of the buildings and some of them collapsing. It will also have a different soundtrack of course, I just couldn't resist throwing in some Jay Z :)

Very nice.
Afterall, who can afford a helicopter and giro rig for an hour!
First of all, this video rocks man, I would like to teach us the technique that you have done to create this piece of art.
I agree this looks awesome! and if you could explain how you did it, that would be awesome as well.
I want a tutorial! The result is amazing!
Really nice effect. So I guess it’s plains that are just moving towards the camera? Well, anyhow lovely and as stated, very affordable
GREAT!!!! How did you do it?!

The trick is the following (I’m pretty sure):
- you get a nice image
- you model some of the stuff, based on the image (only needs to have geometry based on what’s going to be seen when you’ll make your animation)
- make sure everything aligns nicely with your image
- you unwrap the scenes based on the viewing angle, in order to match nicely
- you use the image as a texture for your geometry, using an UV shadeless material
I think this tutorial explains this technique
